The Problem

As much as 85% of the world’s oil is prone to precipitate paraffin deposits which, as every producer knows can reduce oil flow to such a degree that production ceases altogether.

The Cause of the Problem

The primary cause of wax or paraffin deposition is simply a loss in solubility in the crude oil. This loss of solubility is usually a result of changes in temperature, pressure, or composition of the crude oil as a result of loss of dissolved gases.

The Enercat™ tool causes an increase in the solubility of paraffin in the bulk crude oil fluid, thereby minimizing and often preventing paraffin crystallization and deposition.

Physics Driving Chemistry

The Enercat™ tool uses physics to drive the chemistry of the production fluid causing an increase in the solubility of paraffin, thereby minimizing and often preventing paraffin crystallization and deposition.

Acoustic Waves

The tool emits acoustic waves via lattice oscillations of the Enercat’s™ composite material which is enhanced by ambient reservoir heat and pressure. The oscillations and transmitted waves are tuned to be in specific resonance with the molecular oscillations of crude oil bulk fluids.

Solubility Increase

This changes the amplitudes of the reservoir fluids oscillations to frequencies that increase paraffin solubility enough to withstand the decrease in temperature and pressure, and the change in composition of the crude oil fluids as they travel up the well.

Lighter Paraffin

The Enercat™ tool is installed below levels of paraffin crystallization and deposition in the crude oil fluid. Samples of this fluid at the surface after Enercat™ installation yields analyses that are higher in light paraffins than pre-tool samples (see the gas chromatograms graphics on the left).

PARAFFIN CASE HISTORY

When Diamondback looked at the trajectory of paraffin build up even with conventional chemical method, where you have paraffin caked on after 3 months and the Enercat method where it is free and clear, they realized that these two trajectories were going in completely different directions. As a result, they decided to continue to utilize Enercat technology in wells where they have severe paraffin problems to mitigate paraffin formations, prolong time between failures and ultimately reduce operating expenses.
